Why don't colleges just make them all sign non-compete agreements? Corporate America is currently doing that to every low-level, non-important employee, so why can't colleges? Seems like there would be a stronger argument as to why a football player shouldn't be allowed to go to another team to compete against Ohio State than there is for some low-level manager taking a different job. Might put a quick end to the endless transfers. I'm only sort of kidding here...

So you are saying there is a chance...
Yeah, this article was very therapeutic for me. All those guys were can't miss future stars that I was crushed to lose. And basically all of them never really panned out to be all that great. Some were better than others, but we always came out ahead in the end. Meanwhile some lower ranked guys really took off. I wonder if I'm shortchanging Ryan Day in some ways -- maybe the kids that come here excel because of him and Corey Dennis and the kids that go elsewhere don't get the same level of coaching?
As someone said on here already: We'll be fine.
In today's world, I wonder how long he would have stuck with us. If you are the nation's #1 recruit, are you really going to sit behind some guys for a couple of years? Or even one year? If he does opt for Nebraska since his uncle is a coach there, he's probably guaranteed to start right away. Here? Not so much.
It's kind of hard to get excited about recruits anymore. Between decommitting before signing and transferring before you even learn their jersey numbers, what's the point?
And Day needs to get over his aversion to the portal. Free agency is here, and if you aren't partaking in it, you are foolish. Go out and get the most talented guys you can find no matter the avenue, and the best guy plays. Period. We might be able to replace this loss with a transfer QB next year.
Throw the ball to #18. When running, set up the play so it looks like you are throwing to #18. Stop worrying about hurt feelings and the transfer portal. Play the best (and healthiest) running back. The best player plays at every position. If someone transfers, so be it. Bring in a transfer to replace them. It's the new world.
And maybe see if Kerry Coombs has any interest in coaching the secondary again (but ONLY the secondary). With so much talent back there, how can it be such a mess?
Who was the Michigan DB the one year that we picked on over and over and over again? The entire game plan seemed to be to get that guy in a bad matchup and then exploit it.
The cheesecake factory analogy is spot on.
Throw the ball to 18. Run a few plays that look like you are throwing the ball to 18. Repeat. Win.
I'm still an emotional wreck right now. Like Edmund Fitzgerald-sized wreck. The thought of playoffs right now just makes things worse as the possibility of losing to Michigan twice in one year is not something I could tolerate.
OMG yes - "the border is open" kid!
Hamilton's lack of recruitment is a mystery to me. Day visited him in school last year, I believe, yet no offer came and contact seemed to dry up. He's considered a top tackle in the country, so not sure why he wouldn't be a priority as he grew up an OSU fan. I'm guessing they didn't like his development between junior and senior year and thus never offered? I don't think they were "taking him for granted" as he claims, I think OSU just decided he had limited potential. Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen.
Anybody know what happened with the recruitment of Avon, Ohio, OT Hamilton? He's a 4-star kid, camped with the Bucks, but never got an offer. Now he's basically leaning Michigan even though he grew up an OSU fan and wanted to play there - but never got an offer. Not sure how we missed out on him.
Emeka Ebuka fielding punts reminds me of Gamble fielding punts. An over the shoulder catch? Sure. Between the legs? Why not. One handed with his eyes closed? Go for it. Should let that one go? Never.
Just mentioning Gamble's name makes my hands shake. Please catch it, please catch it...
What an amazing player.
I want a film study on why our running game failed against Iowa.
And it will never cease to amaze me how complicated all these playcalls on both sides of the ball are.
Iowa's defensive numbers are very similar to the skunkheads up north, so I think this will be a good measuring stick for us.
This is all great, but let's talk about how Ebuka is channeling his inner Chris Gamble and causing me to nearly have a heart attack with each punt he fields. It's like just making a regular catch isn't challenging enough, so he tries to do the Willie Mays. By the end of the season he'll be catching them between his legs with his eyes closed. My heart can't take it...
Typo alert: C.J. Stroud through the first pick-six...
Should be "threw"
God I love Film Study. I always learn so much.
I had no idea there weren't dorms in the stadium anymore. I graduated in 92 and knew several people that lived there. I think a section of them were for the work-study (not sure if that's the right name) people that worked for the university in various capacities in exchange for cheaper tuition - or a paycheck to offset tuition.
I've noticed a lot of these kids lately are missing a certain school from up north on their list. Many have Sparty in their final list (or at least in their list of offers), but the skunkheads are nowhere to be found. I guess either they are a lot smarter than everyone else and are focusing on other kids, or perhaps the kids are smarter and deciding to go elsewhere to develop and win.
That typing you hear is UM DBs putting their names in the transfer portal
Yeah, that's the worst photoshop job I've ever seen from the athletics department. Are the main people on summer break? I'd rather see him in a TCU hat and jersey than that hack job.
Whatever. Just hang 100 on them Coach Day and shut his ass up.
Please Coach Day, hang 100 on this idiot...and then in the second half, go for two every time.
The thing that always drove me crazy about them complaining is that spot didn't award us the winning touchdown. They had a championship caliber defense that year and had multiple other opportunities but couldn't get it done. IIRC, Mike Weber blocked two guys completely out of the play for Curtis Samuel to win, including the vaunted Jabrill Peppers.
The spot didn't win the game, but the Michigan defense sure as heck lost it.
7 forever. Sorry he didn't get the chance to prove his NFL doubters wrong.
And can someone take that winged helmet behind Schefter and smash it over his head for his idiotic tweet?
Was that the place where the pepperoni was really big? It's been a long time since the late 80s/early 90s when I was there, so things are a bit fuzzy.
