Tyler Huntley is likely who the Bengals are going to see. Not a bad backup, but he’s obviously not Lamar. He also hasn’t played in two weeks, and just started throwing yesterday.

2017-18: Tied for 2nd in Big Ten, one loss behind Sparty for first place. 6 point loss to Gonzaga that would’ve sent them to the Sweet 16.

2019-20: Objectively playing their best basketball of the year right as Covid hit and canceled the season. Had won 4 out of their last 5, including 3 wins over ranked teams.

2020-21: 3 point loss to Illinois in Big Ten Championship game.

2021-22: 10 point loss to Villanova (Final 4 team) that could’ve sent them to the Sweet 16.

So objectively, the facts say they have been very close to success, just unable to get over the hump.

I know we disagree A LOT lol

And there’s nothing wrong with this either! Like me, you’re just a Buckeye basketball fan. That doesn’t mean we have to have the same views and opinions of the basketball team lol

I admittedly get frustrated with people who only show up to bitch and complain, are always calling for Holtmann’s head, etc. If we don’t go undefeated and win the Big Ten (like football), it’s time to fire everyone. Those people get on my nerves.

But I want to be clear that there’s two groups. There’s the group mentioned above, and then there’s some like you Shookster, who are real fans, and are just frustrated with how things happen. I get it, and you’re allowed to feel that way. Regarding this particular game, I think we are actually agreeing (Lmao). But even when we might disagree, I appreciate our discussions because we’re actually talking basketball, not nonsensically trying to fire Holtmann for losing one game.

So thank ya Shookster. We don’t have to agree, but I do appreciate you, and others like you.

That’s because guys talent want to play. They see a returning starter (Zed) and a talented incoming freshman (Okpara) on the roster, both of which want and deserve to play some minutes. Talented guys see that, and say no thanks. They want to be a starter and play 30 minutes a game, which they wouldn’t get here. Holtmann tried, he recruited several talented bigs in the transfer portal, but they went elsewhere.

The only transfer big men you’d get to come here would be a Joey Brunk type. Not an impact recruit, injury history, just looking to finish a degree and be a part of a competitive team. That wouldn’t add much to the team, and everyone would be mad at Holtmann anyways for bringing in someone who doesn’t contribute.

Like you gotta be a decent coach to have your guys in position that many years right?

And that’s where I’ve been. There’s been so much good in the past couple of years. We’ve been so close. It just hasn’t turned into March success yet. You get your team in those situations, and eventually it starts to happen for you. But for whatever reason, we just struggle to get over the hump. This year’s team has so many good pieces, yet they go out and play games like last night.

All Access was a disaster. Holtmann seemed lost at points, but at the same time, he’s telling guys to push the pace, pressure the ball etc. When we did those things, we had success. Lots of success. Yet this team either forgot that after a possession or two, or just didn’t seem interested in trying. Holtmann is the coach, can’t make them make those plays. I don’t think Holtmann has lost the team or anything, because by all accounts, guys love playing for him. That’s why the recruiting is off the charts.

I’ve been a “Holtmann apologist” for a while, and I’m not jumping off the ship because of an ugly loss or two by a young team. But last night was disheartening for sure.

I get what you’re saying, but recruiting/portal threads are usually like part 35, each part has 350 comments  and it’s actually kind of a pain to navigate for specific news. I don’t hate having a new topic for this.

We can make arguments for both sides of the not prepared part. But the other two things are you just reaching for straws to put the coaching staff on blast.

Not motivated? Making mistakes or not, our guys play hard, start to finish. Diving on the floor after loose balls, making extra effort on the glass etc. They might not always make the play, but their effort is unquestionable. Watch the game and this is clear.

And not conditioned? We have 3 guys that average nearly 30 minutes per game. Sensabaugh has been playing 30 for the last three weeks. Yet at the end of the game, they all seem to be as fresh as ever. They’re still making shots, they’re still hustling.

They all list Stroud leaving as a reason we take a step back, which confuses me. Stroud is an excellent excellent Qb of course. But McCord/Brown are both super talented. They’ll be throwing to the best receivers in the country. And they’ll have a whole stable of great running backs. Not to mention Day, who’s track record coaching up young Qb’s is pretty damn good. So if Stroud is these analysts’ biggest concerns, then there’s no need to be concerned.

I think that the Buckeyes any lower than 3 is probably wrong. Ranking them at 6 is a just a bad take. Do they seriously believe that FSU and Washington are better teams???

Y’all are just toxic anytime the BasketBucks lose. Downvote away, but it would be one thing if you were real fans. I’ll give guys like Shookster credit. We don’t always agree, but he’s there win or loss. 90% of you never even show your face when the team wins a game. We could beat Purdue and Houston back to back and the post game article would have 50 comments. We could lose to the Durant-Curry Warriors team and the article would have 150 comments to fire Holtmann. Most of the comments  never offer any sort of insight, or value to the conversation. They never look at how we loss, why we loss.

We started the game without Key, one of our best players and a team captain. For one of the first times all year, Sensabaugh and Thorton played like they were freshmen. Combine those two things and we were pretty much going to have to play perfect to win. We didn’t play perfect, so we lost. Maryland is a good team who was going to get back on track eventually. They have wins over Miami FL and should’ve beat Tennessee, they’re not that crappy. Indiana just lost at home to the NW team we blew out. It’s the Big Ten, it’s a tough conference. You’ll fire every coach for the next 100 years if you’re going to demand a perfect conference record.

I 110% support the decision to postpone the game Monday night. Hamlin almost died on the field, his health was the number 1 and only priority. Plus both teams were clearly shaken. Not continuing the game was absolutely the right call.

But after that? Hamlin is recovering. Whether this game was finished on Tuesday or Wednesday had zero effect on Hamlin's health. If someone at any other workplace had suffered a cardiac arrest on a Monday, everyone would be back to work on a Wednesday. Why is this suddenly different?

Comment 06 Jan 2023

Not ideal? It's literally the worse case scenario for the Bengals. All the negatives associated with a loss to the Bills, none of the positives associated with a win. And oh, here's a worse draft pick and harder schedule for 2024 for being a division winner while potentially still playing road playoff games in round 1.

Comment 06 Jan 2023

I am relieved that prayers were answered and Hamlin is alive and recovering. I am also pissed that the Bengals are getting screwed. These things are not inverses of each other, you can be in both camps at the same time.

Comment 06 Jan 2023

Many other professions see someone die and are back to work the next day. The medical professions and first responders see someone die and are expected to be back to work almost immediately. Hamlin was alive and improving as of Tuesday. No reason they couldn’t have finished the game Tuesday.

This just screams Pryor to me. Hopefully the ACL doesn’t impact his cutting and explosion, because if he replicate what he showed before the injury, getting him the ball in space will cause big time problems for the defense.
