You are absolutely wrong in your first paragraph but right in the second paragraph. There are no contracts between collectives and recruits for NIL deals. That's a clear violation of NCAA rules and the contract itself would give the NCAA all it needs to actually enforce the rule because of the paper trail. The reason all these schools in the south are getting away with it is because there are no contracts and the NCAA can't prove anything. It's all hand shake agreements which is why this kind of thing happens.

Mock drafts aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Just some random journalist in his mom's basement. McCarthy is not an NFL QB. At least not right now. He's a runner not a passer.

He can't sue because there are no contracts. That is against the rules and would actually be enforceable because there would be a paper trail. Every time a kid is promised upfront money in recruiting the kid just has to take their word for it and hope they are being honest.

"the athletic department could absolutely afford to pay quarterbacks roughly 2 mil a season if they wanted to go down that road." I'm assuming you are talking about if the players become employees of the school because as it is right now, the money does not come from the athletic department. If they do become employees I would push back against your argument. I know the casual fan sees all the millions they have running through those departments but most fans don't understand that those athletic departments still operate in the red because that money pays for other non revenue sports to exist. If the athletic department itself is going to start paying players they will have to completely cut all non revenue sports which means the only sports that will exist at the college level is football and basketball period.

Every team is different. It's not just about the coach. We could potentially lose a lot of pieces after next season. I'm expecting a slight fall back in 2024.

It's not that his system needs 2-3 years to develop. It appeared that way in his other stops because those other places didn't have the talent. Talent takes 2-3 years to get in the door and ready to play. We have talent here and we did see immediate results in year one. Regardless of how we played against top competition this defense was immensely better than 2021. The problem is the talent needs to continue to develop. Remember most of our defensive players were developed by Coombs staff so think of every player on the defense as a year or two younger. It's all about development. Next season will be much better.

It's important to have perspective in college football so you have a realistic expectation. If not, those fans will either be looked at as a clown or a troll very similar to you.
Comment 16 Jan 2023
What questions are there? I know they didn't play well against top teir competition but the corners are going to be another year better. Remember this is college football where young players develop. They are not finished products. We do lose two safeties but everyone should feel confident in the young guys we have coming up (Styles, Stokes, Kourt, and the transfer guy).

I certainly agree when it comes to the Michigan game but it's hard to be too harsh on the D when it comes to the playoff. Should UGA fans be screaming to fire their DC because they gave up 41 points to us? Should Michigan fans be doing the same since they gave up 37 offensive points to TCU? Giving up points is going to be the nature of the game when you are in the playoff because you are most likely playing an elite team. The defense absolutely was improved massively since the 2021 season and thats all we could have asked for. It was never going to be a dominant silver bullet defense in year one. Next year it could be though.

The front seven should be on par with the 2019 defense. The secondary should develop nicely as they are all very young players. Obviously this is a projection but the defense finally looks like it is coming into silver bullet form after the disaster of the Coombs tenure.

Klubnik was pretty terrible in their bowl game against an awful pass defenses. It was a Streeter problem the whole time, not DJ. Even Trevor Lawrence was showing signs of poor mechanics the longer he was coached by Streeter. It's just the casual fan never noticed because TL is so great. Klubnik will still need a lot of development by a better QB coach. Time to put to bed that "DJ was so bad that any OC would be screwed with him".

It's Ransom leaving even a legitimate question? Would he even get drafted? He got exposed pretty good at the end of the season and is still a very young player. Would remind me a lot of Jalin Marshall.

OSU hasn't had anywhere near the Oline problems Bama has had and their next QB is a running back. Get outta here troll.
Comment 10 Jan 2023
Well that's your decision which is fine. I just hope fans understand that without it, you will see OSU fall off in recruiting which means no more competing for a natty. More losses to TTUN, less big ten titles. Also, you said you refuse to donate to millionaires. The money is going to the players. Once, again the collectives are NOT so the Schottensteins can hang out with players.
Comment 10 Jan 2023
For most guys you are probably right but for others you don't know how they prioritize what is important to them in this decision making process. There has certainly been top 10 pick level QBs that have come back for another year and this was way before NIL was a factor. CJ could decide that he doesn't want to go out never beating TTUN and winning a championship.
Comment 10 Jan 2023
If fans want players to stay and new talented players to come in you have to donate. The foundation is NOT just for Schottenstein to hang out with players. Donate, Donate, Donate.
Comment 10 Jan 2023
Thanks BR13. Was going to say the exact same. It's not all about OSU when you are looking at CFB as a whole. This definitely adds more meaning to the season for MOST teams. Now after a teams second loss they will still be competing as hard as possible to sneak in or teams will have major incentive to get a home field position or a bye week.

Texas A&M is known for their oil money. A lot of the millionaire boosters in the south love football so they donate. I'm sure the casual fan donates to their collectives as well. It just means more down there. Up here we have Les Wexner who couldn't give a damn about football. Schottenstein is the only billionaire booster that cares. If OSU is going to keep up in NIL it's going to have to come from the fans donating to the collectives but there's too many dumbasses that think the collective is just for Schottenstein so he can hang out with players.
