That's because there is a coach in the Big Ten renowned for his abilities to work with quarterbacks and there is another coach in the Big Ten that actually does incredible work with Quarterbacks and isn't a product of a hype machine.
As for Raiola, I'd be shocked if he plays a down for the program he initially commits to. He's going to go somewhere and will likely demand early playing time, and a handful of coaches in this country have the ability to tell any recruit to pound sand (Spoiler alert, Day is one of them) because there's five more kids just like you, so if you are being outplayed you are riding the pine. Lesser programs won't have that luxury.
I'd be shocked if he isn't on the JT Daniels path already. His recruitment has given me that vibe.
And this isn't jilted lover syndrome. QB's more than any other spot command so much attention and there is only one of them that can play so they'll commit to a place and a coach can't risk being wrong about QB so if the kid isn't the second coming, he'll get benched and that will kick off the transfer saga.
Maybe I'm wrong. I'm betting I'm not.
The peaked when they broke the Teo story and absolutely fell off after that. Julie DiCaro is a big contributor over there and she is brutal. She was a local Chicago personality for a minute but has been laughed out of radio stations and publications alike. If she's still there, they are still trash. And if she isn't they still are.
Not sure a star fell faster in sports media than Deadspin.
This is a really interesting thought. I never considered just how tied in these teams are to one another. The AFC North really is in a unique position not many other divisions are.
Didnt Taylor Lewan threaten to rape someone in defense of said kicker?
Michigan law grad works for the state of Michigan, you don’t say.
Michigan now gets to tell itself none of these things are a big deal now that they’ve had a little bit of success. But man they were ringing their hands over a few discounted tats.
I think the thought is anyone could support an NFL team right? Given that places like Jacksonville do. With that said few places in the country are like Columbus, with such a major college program so ingrained. If had to bet, I’d say yea based on population and the NFL being the NFL but Columbus would be an interesting one.
It really is an awesome time. Iowa City is your classic Midwest college town, the tailgate scene is legit, the fans are all just sorta happy to be there, Kinnick is a drastically under rated venue, and the Wave is as good as advertised. Gets me every single time. I love going to IC.
QB wins aren't an individual stat, neither are losses. Stroud is the purest thrower of the football I have ever seen. The Touchdown to X int he Peach Bowl highlights that.
There's a throw he made in Indiana last year that will also be on the highlight reel as he's evaluated. For my money, no QB threw the ball better than CJ, Dwayne is probably the only one close but even a lot of his stuff was 'hit the wide open guy'. CJ demonstrated more touch, accuracy, and threw into tighter windows.
On a larger scale, teams evaluating QBs this year are going to screw this up. They are going to ignore Bryce and CJ doing it at a high level against live fire and fall in love with what Richardson looks like and what Levis CAN be. CJ and Bryce are both so much more accomplished and gifted as in game QBs. If I am an NFL GM, I'm comparing those two first, then looking at the traits guys.
If a QB goes before CJ, it better be Young and vice versa.
We all let ourselves get a little hopeful but I think we also knew this was where it was heading.
Best of luck CJ!
I second the motion. Do we have a third?
Playing against a demoralized and crushed team probably doesn't get the reps you think it does. I'd argue that playing against OSU's own team is a bigger test as it will almost always be against better competition.
I'd rather see these guys in high leverage situations. I'd say 5-10 reps against Penn State when the game is still in the balance is more helpful than a quarter against Toledo who just spent 3 quarters getting bludgeoned.
The issue isn't time in blowouts for me. Its time in high value situations the way other programs (like the one that beat OSU in the playoffs) do it.
Always.
Bodies not even cold yet and people have to make comments like these. Thanks for calling this out Blood.
I mean he is, but this was a nice touch. Touch em all buddy!
This is a perfect way to sum things up. Props and an upvote to you.
I’m not painting the broad brush of all Eagles fans, I’m saying that the shitty Penn State fans that make up their shitty contingent graduate to being shitty Eagles fans, the ones that make up their contingent. But saying ‘they’re all Eagles fans in training’ is poorly phrased so I apologize for the implication.
You just asked ‘how do we know if Hartline wasn’t calling some or all of the plays’.
We saw it live and in person this season with Stroud and Henderson (to a lesser extent) but calling a player soft is a pretty big red flag for me. Fans demand players play a game a certain way, despite them maybe not being that, so the fall back is to question their heart or toughness….which of course is easy to do from your couch and not when a 290 lb linemen is trying to break you in half every play. But sure CJ and Trey are soft.
Sports bring out the worst in people. People by and large suck. So it’s not shocking that shitty people act shitty about sports.
The Urine throwers in State College are notoriously bad but they’re all Eagles fans in training so that’s not shocking.
The reputation of Iowa fans is deserved and well earned. I’ve been there half a dozen times, including the massacre in 17, and they were all, to a person, student or alum all awesome.
Ah yea because Rebuilding the Chicago Bears and turning them into a functional franchise is an easy task.
Route tree matters. Teams got enamored by size and speed for so long but the best wideouts in the nfl undress people in coverage. I think that becomes the new most favored trait. Size and apeed get you drafted. Route tree mastery gets you paid.
There’s nothing that says he did and no indication that he did but if you want to discredit Day feel free
