It doesn't matter what the university wants, it has no control over fans/boosters. Other university presidents may want their alumni to give to the university instead of NIL collectives, but the alumni give to the NIL collectives anyway.

Just to torture myself a bit more, I rewatched the final 3 offensive plays after Stroud's run before the missed FG.
First down: We send a man in motion to the strong side, Georgia LB does not bite. In fact he starts running to the hole Hayden attempts to hit BEFORE the ball is snapped. He read the play and blows it up. Somehow he knew it was going to be a run to that very spot. Perhaps Stroud telling Hayden where to line up or the motion gave it away. Had he not made such a great read, that play perhaps goes for 5 yards.
Second down: Slant to Xavier Johnson. Johnson gets inside, Stroud puts the ball in front of Xavier and he doesn't come up with the catch. Not a bd throw but a better throw would have been right on Xavier's body. Still very catchable. I feel very confident if that were Harrison he catches it on the 26 and falls forward at least 2 yards.
Third down: receiver (I think Emeka) is open at the 25 on the left side and Stroud is looking at him but for some reason does not throw it. He then has to scramble to avoid the rush and throws it away. Could have been roughly a 6 to 8 yard pickup.
Any one of those plays could have gained 5+ yards. If we get any of them the kick goes from under 50/50 to over 50/50. In Noah's career at OSU he is 0 for 5 on 50+ yard field goals, 15 for 18 on 40-49 yarders, including 7 for 7 this year. He is clearly straining for distance on the shank which he doesn't need to do if we are 5+ yards closer.
Great team effort, such a bummer it ended in defeat. Knew that final series was for the national championship.
Florida 2007 also stung but for a different reason. Correction, we went into that game thinking we were the best team in the country. After that game, it was clear we were not (UM also got destroyed by USC). Ted Ginn is not worth 27 points a game. If we played Florida again, they would have won again.
That one stung because we got destroyed and exposed. This one stung because we proved we really can hang with the #1 undefeated seed and defending national champ, yet due to numerous bad breaks we did not get the win. It's painful to come so close and get none of the rewards.
Who would pass such regulation? The NCAA can't. The supreme court has made that clear.
I still think Knowles was a great hire. We just have poor talent in the secondary by OSU standards and no top of the first round draft pick on the Dline.
If we played first, I'd root for UM if we won or TCU is Georgia won. Since they play first will be rooting for TCU. A national title would be glorious no matter who we beat.
It's not NIL money. These 2 players are about to sign $30M+ contracts, They don't need NIL money anymore.
You have a great point about the benefit of getting next year's starters a one game head start.
Totally disagree on these games being meaningless. I look at last year's Rose Bowl as our 3rd or 4th most important game of that season. I took great joy in that victory and it impacted our final ranking.
Don't agree. There is no more risk of injury in a Bowl game than a regular season game. After Alabama's loss to LSU their playoff hopes were pretty much gone. It would have made much more sense to skip the Austin Peay game than skip the Sugar Bowl.
This is ecactly what will happen
A QB can still play running at 50% speed, a WR can not.
Had we not given up the log TDs in the 4th quarter or managed to get an additional score, I think an OSU who lost a close game to UM would be ahead of a TCU that loses a close game to Kansas St. However an OSU who lost by 22, even though in reality it was not a game UM dominated, will be behind a TCU who loses a close game.
I doubt we pass TCU even if they lose unless they get blown out
In the horrible event that Utah does not win Friday, I would rather play in the Orange, especially if it's against Clemson.
We will find out tomorrow. Since neither Alabama or Ohio State play any more games whichever is ahead tomorrow will be ahead in the final rankings.
I think it shows incredible class by Fick. He was not going to leave a team heading the the CFP. Biggest moment in program history would have been soured.
This is the big question. Might come down to a close TCU loss and they are in, but 10+ point loss and we move ahead.
TCU is only a 2 point favorite. USC is only a 2.5 point favorite. Above 50% chance one of them loses.
huh? Last year proved the opposite. Georgia really was the best team in the country and deserved to be the national champ. It proved letting teams in who weren't conference champs and who had lost their last can can be the right choice.
Would love to see it. The ball would be snapped 1 yard away from the goal post, 9 yards deep in the endzone
He actually got $15M for being fired, it would have been 'just' $7.5M had they waited another 3 weeks. I think $7.5M would have been more than enough.
makes total sense:
Step 1: Pitt is the ACC champ and loses to the B1G #4 team by 10 points with both teams missing their best player.
Step 2: ??????
Step 3: Pitt could win B1G every year
I understand these guys may not see much playing time and may want to transfer, but why not stick around another 2 weeks and get some more practice in before transferring?
it was a bad day to be a Nebraska bathroom.
That's what I'm taking from this article. Love it.
Nobody who gets demoted wants to stay with their current employer. Virtually everyone would take the same role someplace else and get a fresh start.
Illegal benefits won't "always be a part of big time football" anymore. Now it can be legally done.
