To be fair, I think the weight of the Spring Game in terms of QB battles is way overblown. Sure it's a great way to get the fanbase behind one of the two, but other than that, I think the day-to-day practices are more important. I would be shocked if this battle ends in the Spring, odds are that this thing rolls into the fall. McCord is the odds on favorite to win the job, but we'll see.

While I have a soft spot for Cardale, and he will always be a legend for that 3 game run, he's not a top 5 QB for tOSU, but a Legend no less.

True enough, I guess the role of a QB has changed a ton. just 1000 yards through the air with more picks than TDs just bugs my modern football mind.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

He did help a 6-4 Buckeye squad upset a B1G Champion TTUN squad and was #7 going into the day. He also clutched up the 1 vs 2 matchups in 2006.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

Way before my time... but his best year 1969 he threw for 1002 yards, had a 9td to 10int ratio, and rushed for 583 yards for 9tds. I'm sure there is context for him being 3rd in Heisman voting, but he's not even sniffing the top end with that stat line.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I forgot Smith started that game... mainly because he wasn't the starter for the opening act of the 2005 season. So bonus points for Troy.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

If I could put any Buckeye in as the starter for 2023 it would be Fields, mainly due to how mobile he is and with the questions, we have at O-Line. JF is nuts running, which is funny because outside of his first rushing TD he wasn't really known as a super dynamic runner compared to his career in Chicago thus far.

It's a fair point, I don't think you can lay any loss at his feet alone, but the fact remains he never achieved a single preseason goal here. Never beat TTUN, ever won the B1G, never won a Playoff game. He wasn't the reason for those, but he'll never be remembered as the "best" or even top 3 due to his lack of success when you boil everything down.

His personal legacy for better or worse will have to be defined by his NFL career, which I hope is a HOF one.

Hope he's drafted by a team that can develop him into a pro bowler. I wanna see Stroud playing 15 years from now.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

He will 100% be the best pro-tOSU QB of all time. But for the reasons stated above, his Buckeye career will be (rightfully so) labeled as stats but with no substance and he'll never rank as the best Buckeye QB because of it (tho certainly one of the most talented), but if he's okay with that, then so am I.

I don't see anyone as mad. Just getting my hopes up. Ultimately CJ or no CJ the 2023 team is going to be a top 4 squad in the nation. CJ coming back makes us the favorite to win the Natty, but the main concern remains on the defense, which CJ can't control.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

I think you're reading a little too deeply into it. If Day had an issue with McCord he would have been shipping Brown out there more often.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

Seeing as how this guy can't keep his mouth shut I bet he would have been the last person to learn what CJ is doing.

Comment 16 Jan 2023

Well, I assume he had two graphics made, one for staying and one for going. The only people who will know for sure is CJ, his close family, and select members of the staff. That and it's possible he's still thinking it over even this morning.

Comment 13 Jan 2023

It would be snooped out by insiders same day and it would be on some record by the NFL. Better to put it out there yourself.

Comment 13 Jan 2023

CJ has the chance to become the greatest QB in Ohio State, no, B1G history. If he wins a Natty he's the GOAT.
